Welcome to the UNITAR CIFAL Jeju / Jeju International Training Center(JITC)

The UNITAR Jeju International Training Center (JITC) was established in 2010 by the agreement among the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the International Peace Foundation (IPF) based in Korea.

UNITAR, as a dedicated training arm of the United Nations system, provides training and research activities mainly to developing countries. To contribute to its operation, 31 affiliated regional training centers (CIFAL Network) have been established and delivering trainings and capacity development sessions on a wide range of areas including environmental sustainability, social inclusion, economic development and peace, in line with UNITAR’s aims and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In particular, UNITAR CIFAL Jeju/JITC, as a sole UNITAR regional training center in Korea, has been recognized for its exemplary and active operation of diverse range of training programs. It has provided seminars, workshops and remote education to around 21,000 beneficiaries from countries in the Asia-Pacific region. JITC has also formed strategic and differentiated partnerships with cities and international organizations that share common principles and goals to contribute to the capacity building of developing countries.

Furthermore, CIFAL Jeju/JITC is dedicated to leveraging its capacity to contribute to enabling Jeju Island to be a global peace hub. It also supports Jeju Island to demonstrate its accumulated capacity as one of the leading actors in implementing the SDGs, while making efforts to discover and cultivate young talents for sustainable development. Through these efforts, we aim to solidify Jeju Island's standing as the center of Northeast Asian peace.

UNITAR 제주국제연수센터는 제주특별자치도와 유엔훈련연구 기구(UNITAR) 그리고 국제평화재단간의 합의로 2010년에 설립되었습니다.

유엔훈련연구기구(UNITAR)는 유엔 내 교육훈련과 종합적인 연구를 담당하는 기구로서, UNITAR의 목표 및 UN의 지속가능발전목표(SDGs)와 연계한 환경,평화, 거버넌스와 경제발전 분야 등 다양한 연수프로그램을 운영하며, 이를 위해 전 세계에 33개의 지역연수센터를 설치하여 운영하고 있습니다.

특히 한국에 설립된 UNITAR의 유일한 지역연수센터인 제주국제연수센터(JITC)는 다양한 연수 프로그램을 모범적으로 운영하며 높은 평가를 받고 있습니다. 지금까지 지속가능발전목표(SDGs) 연계 역량강화 워크숍, 세미나, 비대면 교육과정 등을 통해 국내외 다양한 분야와 연령층을 아우르는 약 28,000명의 연수생을 배출하였습니다. 아울러, 개발도상국의 지역 주체(local actors)가 필요로 하는 역량을 효과적으로 강화하기 위해, 공통의 목표와 원칙을 공유하는 도시 및 국제기구들과 전략적이고 차별화된 협력 관계를 구축해오고 있습니다.

아울러 제주국제연수센터는 제주도가 ‘세계 평화의 섬’으로 자리매김할 수 있도록 자체 역량 강화에 집중하고 있습니다. 나아가 국제무대에서 제주도의 축적된 경험과 자원이 효과적으로 활용될 수 있도록 지원하고 있으며, 젊은 인재의 발굴과 육성에도 힘쓰고 있습니다. 이러한 노력을 통해 제주도가 동북아 평화의 중심지로서의 위상을 더욱 공고히 하는 데 기여하고자 합니다.

2025년 5월에 부임한 UNITAR 제주국제연수센터의 신임 소장으로서, 지난 30여 년간 독일, 중국, 헝가리, 태국, 투르크메니스탄 등 다양한 국가에서 근무하며 축적한 다자협력 및 개발협력 분야의 경험을 바탕으로, 앞으로 제주국제연수센터가 아시아·태평양 지역의 지속가능발전목표(SDGs) 이행에 보다 실질적으로 기여할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠습니다.
