Youth Steering Committee Application

Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Jeju International Training Center will co-organize the 2nd Jeju International Future Generation Forum (JIFF) from November 24th to 26th, 2023 in Jeju Island. The Forum, titled ‘A Sustainable Future through the Language of Youth', will be held with the aim of reimagining, and articulating a sustainable future through the voices of young people.

We are excited to announce that applications are now open for the Youth Steering Committee of the 2nd JIFF. We are looking for enthusiastic and competitive individuals who are passionate about shaping the future. As a Youth Steering Committee member, you will have the opportunity to contribute innovative ideas and visions to the planning and implementation stages of the Forum by leading and working together with other participants within each thematic group, and your voice will be heard by influential figures from around the world.

The 2^nd JIFF will focus on four sub-themes, and applicants for the Youth Steering Committee are requested to select their two preferred topics and include them in their application form to be submitted online.

The 2^nd JIFF promises to be an enriching experience, and we eagerly await the active participation and contributions of youth leaders. By collaborating at the Forum, we can collectively address global challenges and foster impactful leadership. We strongly look forward to receiving numerous applications and welcoming the participation of passionate youth individuals to the Steering Committee. Let us seize this opportunity to develop leadership skills and collectively tackle global issues.

An additional request for applying for the participation in the 2nd JIFF will be made separately in the near future.

1.    Sub-themes of JIFF

A.    Environmental Sustainability: Engaging Youth for Climate Action/Environment Conservation/Building Environmentally Sustainable Cities and Communities

B.    Equality & Justice: Fostering Just and Inclusive Urban Communities/Empowering Gender Equality

C.    Prosperity & Innovation: Promoting Fair and Just Economic Opportunities for Youth through Sustainable Transformation

D.   Global Jeju: Reflecting on Jeju’s Past, Present, and Sustainable Future through the Lens of Youth Experts

2.    Objectives of Steering Committee

        - Encourage active participation and contributions from youth leaders.

        - Strengthen global leadership through youth-led planning and initiatives.

        - Advocate for the implementation of youth recommendations from the Forum to high-level figures.

        - Facilitate immersive sessions for enhanced participant engagement and experiences.

        - Provide a glocal (global + local) experience by integrating Jeju's unique culture and environment.

3.    Schedule of Steering Committee

The main event will be held from November 24th to 26th, 2023 in Jeju Island, with approximately five preparatory activities (meetings) including one Orientation (OT) Session scheduled prior to the Forum.

4.    Eligibility for Steering Committee

We welcome youth individuals between the ages of 19 and 39, residing in Jeju, whether Korean nationals or foreign residents, to apply for the eight available positions on the Youth Steering Committee (2 members per each sub-theme, total of 8 members).

5.    Roles of Steering Committee Members

       - Planning and discussing ideas related to their assigned themes.

       - Collaborating with other participants and demonstrating leadership.

       - Members will be assigned a topic for the Youth Forum Group Parallel Action Plenary.

       - Members will conduct thorough research on the assigned topic and prepare draft paper of the Recommendation to the         Forum.

6.    How to apply for Steering Committee

Interested applicants are required to submit the following documents to jejujiff@gmail.com by 7 September 2023 (Thur).

-            Curriculum Vitae (CV)

-            Application Form with a short statement of interest – two questions (maximum 1 page)

Your statement should include:

1. Why are you interested in joining the Youth Steering Committee?

2. Your unique skills and qualifications: How will your professional and personal background contribute to the Steering Committee?

3. Choose 2 sub-themes and describe specific reasons.

7.    Application/Selection Process of Steering Committee

Document Evaluation: Assessment based on the submitted application and supporting documents (8~9 September 2023)

Interview: Shortlisted candidates will undergo an interview process (10 September 2023)

Final Selection: Committee members will be selected based on the overall evaluation, including the interview results (11 September 2023)

Activity Starting Date: Orientation (OT) Session (16 September 2023)

8.    Selection Criteria of Steering Committee

Applicants should possess proficient English communication skills and demonstrate an interest in international forums, events, and related fields.

For those selected as members of the 2^nd JIFF Youth Steering Committee, we are pleased to offer the following benefits:

- Preferential consideration for internship applications at UNITAR Jeju International Training Center

-  Reimbursement - 100,000 won per session (Total 500,000 won)

- A monthly (1 month) Subscription to Coursera Plus

- Appointment Letter of Steering Committee (Including Certificate of Participation)
