Cross-cutting issues are identified as topics that affect and cut across most or all aspects of sustainable development. These topics are encouraged to be integrated and mainstreamed throughout the whole process of development, such as design, implementation and evaluation.

To encourage national and local communities to adopt a cross-cutting lens throughout its development policies, CIFAL Jeju/JITC provides a diverse array of related training programs including peace and security, gender equality, global partnerships and more. As a subsidiary organ of the Jeju's International Peace Foundation(IPF), CIFAL Jeju/JITC is committed to emphasize the promotion of peaceful, secure and inclusive societies for sustainable development through our workshops.

CIFAL Jeju organises Alumni Gathering Workshop on

Catalyzing Best Practices to Maximize Impacts and Enhance Urban Sustainability

19 to 20 October 2022, Bangkok, Thailand – UNITAR CIFAL Jeju organized a the first Alumni Gathering Workshop on “Catalyzing Best Practices  to Maximize Impacts and Enhance Urban Sustainability” from the 19th to 20th of October 2022. As part of our efforts to strengthen networking and capacity building opportunities, we wanted to start offering a venue to disseminate the valuable lessons learned and success stories of our alumni. We invited a selected number of our alumni to share their success stories and learn different localized approaches and adapted practices from each other to achieve sustainable impacts. The event invited 18 alumni from government, civil society, academia, the UN and international organizations of 9 countries including: Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, etc.

The two-day sessions in Bangkok were filled with participants' success stories on issues that cut across the 17 Goals, such as urban/rural development, sustainable tourism, and climate risk reduction and management. Combined with expert lectures on emerging frameworks in each sector, the workshop was expected to contribute to the enhancement of urban sustainability in the regions each participant represents. Learning opportunities were provided by the invited speakers, Tam Hoang & Riccardo Maroso (UN-Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific), Omar Siddique (United Nations ESCAP), Mushtaq Ahmed Memon (UNEP) and Hitomi Rankine  (United Nations ESCAP).

With the main goal of providing networking opportunities to share knowledge, the agenda was filled mostly by our very own alumni. Progresses and lessons learned were disseminated by our alumni and new learnings to help identify areas of improvement were provided through discussions among the alumni and experts.
