The Workshop on "Enhancing Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) for Effective Gender-based Violence (GBV) Interventions" was organized by UNITAR CIFAL Jeju on September 25, 2023. The event, conducted in webinar format, aimed to provide participants from developing countries with the necessary tools and skills to enhance the planning and implementation of gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response initiatives through effective monitoring and evaluation techniques.

A total of approximately 500 participants from 40 different countries registered for the Workshop. The Workshop was structured around four sessions, covering topics such as the importance of improving GBV prevention and response programs, trends in monitoring and evaluation tools for GBV programs, case studies, challenges, and insights.

Participants learned that to effectively monitor and evaluate GBV prevention and response programs, it is essential to employ appropriate methods and tools. Firstly, setting clear objectives for these programs and determining how they will be measured proves invaluable. Secondly, deciding on data collection and analysis methods aids in measuring program effectiveness and identifying areas for improvement. Lastly, deriving meaningful evaluation results based on this information allows for effective communication with stakeholders and facilitates program enhancement.

The Workshop served as a valuable initiative in the global effort to combat gender-based violence. Its focus on building monitoring and evaluation capacities equips participants with the skills needed to create more effective GBV prevention and response programs. The event was also an opportunity to foster knowledge exchange and collaboration among stakeholders, ultimately contributing to the creation of environments conducive to reducing and preventing gender-based violence.

UNITAR CIFAL Jeju는 2023년 9월 25일 ‘효과적인 젠더기반폭력 예방 및 대응을 위한 모니터링과 평가’라는 주제로 온라인 국제 역량 강화 워크숍을 웨비나 형식으로 개최했다. 금번 워크숍은 개발도상국 참가자들이 자국의 젠더기반폭력 예방 및 대응 프로그램을 조금 더 효과적으로 기획하고 운영할 수 있게끔 모니터링과 평가 기술을 제공하는 데 목적을 두었다. 워크숍에는 40개국 약 500명의 참가자가 등록했으며, 3명의 국내외 전문가들은 젠더기반폭력 예방 및 대응 프로그램 개선의 중요성, 젠더기반폭력 예방 및 대응 프로그램의 모니터링과 평가 도구, 사례 연구, 도전과제 및 시사점 등을 포함한 4개의 세션에서 강의하였다.

참가자들은 젠더기반폭력 예방 및 대응 프로그램의 모니터링과 평가를 위해서는 수단 및 도구가 필요한데, 우선, 예방 및 대응 프로그램의 목표를 정하고 그것들이 어떻게 측정될지를 결정하는 데 도움이 된다는 점을 배웠다. 또한 이러한 수단과 도구는 데이터 수집 및 분석 방법을 결정하여 프로그램의 성과를 측정하고 문제점을 파악하는 데 도움을 주며, 효과적인 평가 결과를 도출하여 이해관계자들에게 전달하고 개선할 수 있는 방법을 모색토록 하는 데 도움이 됨을 인식하였다.

금번 워크숍은 개발도상국 젠더기반폭력 대응 관계자들에게 효과적인 젠더기반폭력 대응을 위한 모니터링과 평가 역량강화 기반을 마련하고, 최근의 관련 이론, 방법 및 도구 논의에 개도국의 다양한 시각을 전달하는 기회를 제공함으로써, 젠더기반폭력 예방 및 감소 환경조성에 기여했다고 본다.
