A Series of Local Case Descriptions

Leading cities show creative management of biodiversity at local level
Leading cities and towns show remarkable creativity in managing their biodiversity. This series of case studies illustrates a selection of local biodiversity-related activities from different regions of the world. These case studies demonstrate the economic, social and environmental benefits that the sustainable management of biodiversity can yield for cities.

The case descriptions show how cities and towns can take action in managing their biodiversity and its threats. They also demonstrate a variety of targeted response options, from the creation of protected areas and reserves to sustainable resource management and pollution prevention programmes. These local actions are reducing the rate of biodiversity loss for specific habitats and species.
