UNITAR CIFAL Jeju International Training Center hosted the 8th International Workshop on "AI and Transnational Organized Crimes" from 16 to 19 September 2024.
The workshop brought together 19 participants from 8 Asia-Pacific countries (Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines), including government officials, prosecutors, cybersecurity experts, and private sector representatives.
Participants analyzed the latest trends in how AI is exploited for crimes, such as deepfake-based fraud, generative AI phishing attacks, and AI-based money laundering, and received training on AI-powered crime prevention technologies and digital forensic tools.
The key objective of this workshop was to build a multilateral cooperation network for an integrated response to AI-enabled transnational crimes. Participants established a foundation for knowledge sharing, operational collaboration, and strengthened joint response mechanisms among governments, international organizations, the private sector, and academia. Through this programme, participants enhanced their capacities in AI governance and cybercrime response, and laid the groundwork for developing effective policies at the national and regional levels.

이번 워크숍에는 아시아·태평양 8개국(라오스, 말레이시아. 몽골, 베트남, 인도, 인도네시아, 태국, 필리핀)의 정부 관계자, 검사, 사이버보안 전문가 및 민간부문 대표 등 19명이 참여했다.
참가자들은 딥페이크 사기, 생성형 AI 기반 피싱 공격, AI를 활용한 자금세탁 및 인신매매 등 AI 기술이 초국경 조직범죄에 악용되는 최신 현황을 분석하고, AI 기반 범죄 예방 기술과 디지털 포렌식 도구에 대해 학습했다.
또한, 한국지능사회정보진흥원 및 컴퓨터박물관 현장 학습을 통해 한국의 디지털 혁신 및 사이버 보안 인프라 구축 사례를 직접 배우는 시간을 가졌다.
이번 워크숍의 핵심 목표는 'AI 기반 초국경 범죄에 대한 통합적 대응을 위한 다자간 협력 네트워크 구축'으로, 참가자들은 정부, 국제기구, 민간부문, 학계 간 지식 공유 및 운영 협력, 공동 대응 체계 강화를 위한 기반을 마련했다. 본 프로그램을 통해 참가자들은 AI 거버넌스 및 사이버 범죄 대응 역량을 강화하고, 국가·지역 차원의 효과적인 정책 수립을 위한 기반을 다졌다.
